Built on the Job, Not in a Boardroom

At nineteen, I moved to Jacksonville with nothing figured out yet — just an opportunity to work construction with a friend's family business. That job turned into seven years of learning the trade from the ground up: flooring first (LVP, laminate, endless jobs), then tile work, then trim and paint, then the finer details of full shower and bathroom remodels. I ran a flooring crew for a while, and eventually became a manager — but I never stopped doing the work myself. I just believed in staying hands-on.

Eventually I moved on and took a job as the lead repair and punch-out specialist for a large bathroom remodeling company. That's where I learned exactly what not to do.

That company was chasing volume — taking on as many big custom jobs as possible just to keep cash flowing to the last one. They weren't managing subcontractors well, and it showed: customers waited six, eight, even twelve months for bathrooms and kitchens that should've taken weeks. The work suffered. The people suffered more.

That experience is the reason Lewis Bathroom Remodeling exists. I wanted to build something the opposite way — centered on the customer and their specific project, not on how many jobs we could juggle at once.

For the first two years, I didn't run a single ad. Every job came from word of mouth — customers telling friends and family about the work I'd done for them. That's still the foundation of how I want this business to run. I've since started marketing to reach more homeowners across Northeast Florida, but the standard hasn't changed: one project, done right, before moving to the next.
